About Me

I am a Renaissance Woman in the truest sense of the term.  The definition of a Renaissance Woman, according to the Encarta World English Dictionary is:

Definition
Ren·ais·sance wom·an

Ren·ais·sance wom·enPlural
NOUN
1.   woman with wide-ranging intellect: a woman who has a wide range of accomplishments and intellectual interests
Thesaurus
NOUN
Synonyms: fount of knowledge, Renaissance manRenaissance woman, walking encyclopedia, sage, mine of information
NOUN
Antonyms: specialist

Similar terms I have found include Polymath (a more recent term), Scanner (by one of my favorite authors, Barbara Sher), and generalist.  My preference for Renaissance Woman is simply personal, perhaps owing to an era I love to read about.  They all mean basically the same thing.

I have an insatiable interest in many things, both professionally and personally, which you'll soon come to discover if you continue to browse these pages.

Professionally:

I'm a professional freelancer who enjoys both long-term assignments and one-off projects.

I am located just outside of Victoria, Texas, in the Golden Crescent.  That means that I'm within a two hour drive of Corpus Christi, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin.  I am happy to accept clients and train groups in any of those cities.  I am further available nationwide for assignments lasting a week or longer, or for those assignments in which a remote location would work.  In the day and age of technology, this is most projects.

For my professional resume, please feel free to visit my LinkedIn profile (on the sidebar, or on the mainpage).  I don't include every freelance assignment on that profile, so if you're curious about what I can do, contact me with your project information, and I'll be happy to let you know if I can do it!  If I can't, I do have a network of other excellent freelancers who I may be able to refer you to.

Who hires me:

  • A real estate salesperson/broker who wants a complete marketing package of their listing(s) to include one or more of the following:  photographs of interior and exterior of home, informational flyer, script for cable show, classified newspaper ad.  They could hire a photographer, then hire a marketing assistant, but I can save them money and time by doing both.  (Watson Realty, Jacksonville, FL)
  • A retail non-profit business that wants a small website/blog and/or social networking presence.  They may hire me for ongoing blog posts, Facebook status updates, and Tweets, or they may just hire me to create it, while they'll handle the on-going updates.  (Volunteer - Habitat for Humanity Re-store, Victoria, TX)
  • A background screening company looking to grow their business through branding, website creation, and social networking.  (EmploySafe Technologies, Jacksonville, FL)
  • A local homeschool organization needing someone to create a football program for their new 6-man football team, and needing a Treasurer.  (Volunteer - VCA 6-Man Football, Victoria, TX)
As you can see by the small list above, I also believe in giving back to our community!

I'm in the process of receiving my certification to be a Stress Management Coach, and will be offering classes, group training, and one-on-one Stress Management Coaching Services in the near future.

Personally:

I am a married mother of a large blended family (seven children, two of whom are now grown, and a wonderful granddaughter).  We homeschool the three that live with us, to allow us more flexibility, and them a more thorough and in-depth education than we believe they would get from public schools.  I'm a homeschooling advocate, and attempt to help other new homeschooling families, but I'm not a zealot.  I don't believe every child *should* be homeschooled, only that it's what's best for our children and our family.  That may change in time, and I'm okay with that, too.  Several of our children are or were public schooled, too.

I love to travel, and look at life as if it's an adventure.  Each trip somewhere, whether to another town or another state, is a learning experience (for both the adults and for the children), and I try to treat it as such.

I have many other things I love, and to attempt to list them would become prohibitive for both me as the writer, and you as the reader.  But there is very little that I'm not interested in.  A day 4-wheeling with the family is just as loved as a day at the beach, or a winter day ensconced on my couch with a new book.  I love to learn about animals, the earth, sustainability, and people.  I'm also just discovering nutrition, holistic healing, and fitness.
